Lorraine Compton
Lorraine advises clients operating in the Retail, Hospitality, Leisure and Liquor Licensing sectors. She has been involved in many landmark disputes in the area of trademark infringement and Landlord and Tenant law. She is regarded as a leading practitioner in the area of Leisure and Licensing law and was chosen as “Best Lawyers” 2015 and 2016 Lawyer of the year Leisure and Licensing Law, Dublin.
Lorraine was previously head of the Retail and Leisure Sector Group at Matheson, one of Ireland’s leading professional law firms. She has a deep understanding of every process which affects a retail business from dealing with suppliers; to loyalty schemes; advertising; product liability; defence of prosecutions under the Health, Intoxicating Liquor, and Consumer Acts; intellectual property; issues affecting products (in particular own brand goods); customs issues etc.
Lorraine has immersed herself fully into her client’s businesses to gain a better understanding of their systems and needs and has on occasions worked on client’s shop floors to establish if particular advices will work in given situations.
She is a frequent speaker to the Retail and Leisure Industry and is the Law Society of Irelands nominee to work with the Courts Service on the introduction of a computer system for the online management, administration payment and service of Liquor Licensing applications.

Nicola Rooney
Nicola is head of our Real Estate department. Nicola has 20 years experience in all aspects of Commercial Property, Landlord and Tenant, Retail and Leisure and Liquor Licensing law. She also has significant experience in the real estate aspects of Corporate and Banking Transactions having worked in a number of top tier firms in Dublin. She is involved on an ongoing basis in transactions involving financing/refinancing of commercial property and in relation to existing title structures and the remediation of title issues.
Nicola has a proven track record in the acquisition, development, leasing and disposal of shopping centres, having acted for many leading international retail clients and has been in involved in most of the major shopping centre developments in this country in the last 20 years.
Nicola has also acted for many multinationals and has extensive landlord and tenant experience not only in the Retail, Leisure and Licensing sectors but also in the office and industrial sector.
A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, she has practiced with Matheson and McCann Fitzgerald.

Joy Compton
Joy is head of our Corporate Department and has 20 years experience in the area of Commercial and Corporate law advising in relation to Mergers & Acquisitions, Joint Ventures, Management Buyouts, Corporate Restructuring and Corporate Governance matters. She also advises clients in their day to day business in relation to commercial contracts by drafting and negotiating contracts including shareholders agreements, outsourcing arrangements, operating agreements and agency/distribution contracts.
Joy, who previously worked in a leading Irish law firm Eugene F. Collins, is the Chairperson of the Business Law Committee of the Law Society of Ireland.
Joy has written a number of articles for various publications including “Legal Aspects of Doing Business in Ireland” and the Irish chapter of a book on “Directors’ Liability and Indemnification”. She wrote the Irish chapter of a German publication called Business Law in Germany which includes a compendium on legal forms in major jurisdictions around the globe. Joy is a regular speaker at seminars on areas of her expertise.
